WA nurses are escalating their industrial action on Wednesday by introducing a ban on nurses working overtime.

Following their ban on double shifts last Wednesday, the Nursing Federation has decided to increase action as the deadlock remains unresolved.

More action could potentially follow including bans on accepting patients above hospital capacity and day-long rolling stoppages from hospital to hospital.

Janet Reah, State Secretary at the Australian Nursing Federation told Oliver Peterson onĀ Perth Live that this ban is aimed at demonstrating the goodwill of our nurses and midwives.

“It will show the burden that nurses and midwives have been carrying for the longest time, definitely in the last two years, and it’s a shame that we have had this as the norm,” Ms Reah told OLy.

“The fact that we are expected to work over time just says a lot about the state that our system is in.”
