Police officers won’t be patrolling the sidelines of community sport events when new level two restrictions kick in on Thursday.

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson indicated to Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast officers would only respond if they had a complaint from the member of the public, as was the case at a Glendalough church several weeks ago.

“We will be responding to matters that we believe would put the public at risk,” he said on Wednesday morning.

Mr Dawson said he doesn’t have enough officers nor the information to monitor community sport, which has been limited to a maximum of 30 people and parents only.

“Unless there’s some particular health risk. Police have got far more important I would say…” the Commissioner said before changing tack and emphasising the importance of listening and adhering to the latest health directions.
