WA Police have announced the use of new body-worn cameras that can live stream vision from frontline police officers.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson told Breakfast host Gareth Parker the new body cameras can capture evidence and ensure accountability for everyone when there was an incident.

“It’s a very good evidence collection and accountability measure… we’ve gone one step forward, for critical incidents you can now live stream it direct to our command posts,” he said.

“If you think about a siege incident, or some sort of armed robbery, we need people that can oversee the assets, the deployment, the command and decision making that aren’t necessarily right at the front pointy end.”
