WA has once again taken the maligned top spot as the meth capital of Australia, with drug use increasing exponentially in regards to certain substances over the last two years.

Our state saw the biggest jump in meth consumption compared to other states and territories across Australia since border closures during the pandemic slowed down its importation.

Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission principal drugs advisor Shane Neilson told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings it shows a consistent demand for illicit drugs and a constant supply.

“It’s a really wicked problem… the trouble is there’s both reliable supplies from [overseas] but also domestic manufacture,” Mr Neilson said.
