Retailers are waiting on the state government to clarify trading conditions for the one-off national public holiday next Thursday September 22 to honour the passing of Queen Elizabeth.

Australian Retailers Association CEO Paul Zahra told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast there are certain public holidays on the annual calendar, such as Good Friday and Christmas Day, that retailers don’t advocate to open for.

“Once we get the government clarification it will be up to individual retailers to decide whether they open,” he told Parker.

“It’s more about whether they believe it is viable for them to open.”

Friday September 21 is a public holiday in Victoria, while Monday September 24 is one in WA, with school holidays beginning on the 21st.
