WA site could be first locked-off beach as Shire battles vandalism

The Shire of Waroona is looking to establishing mandatory permits for Preston Beach after the holiday season left the regional shire with a cleanup bill worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The plan would be a first for any part of the WA coastline, but Shire President Mike Walmsley told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast they’ve reached a point of no return.

“We’ve sort of walked along to the line so far, and now it’s reaching a point where it’s ramping up,” Mr Walmsley said.

“We’re finding a lot of issues with vandalism, people stacking up rubbish everywhere- sadly we’re losing the fight.”
