WA businesses struggling to compete with resource sector for tradies
Albany Engineering Director Andrew ‘Sonny’ Lister has received just one application in nine-months for a tradie ‘fitter machinist’ job.
He told Jamie Burnett on Weekends its a challenge to find workers in this day and age but fitter machinists are especially hard to come by.
The business has offered a salary of $70,000 – $100,000 but say its not enough to compete with a cashed up resources sector.
But they cannot afford to pay $150,000.
“We’ve got to pass on costs to the client and the customers and it just becomes unfair,” Mr Lister says.
