WA teens earn their stripes on grueling Kokoda adventure
Following months of physical and mental preparation, 14 youth from across regional and metropolitan WA have just conquered the Kokoda Trail, i.e one of the most grueling treks in the world.
The group began training for the trek in March, including two arduous camps, to prepare for the 96-kilometre trek, which was hosted by YMCA WA and Kokoda Courage.
Eighteen-year-old trekker Liam Plane told Jo McManus onĀ 6PR Afternoons he suffered some injuries on the trail, but ultimately used the pain to reflect on what the trek meant personally.
“I ended up damaging my toes from slamming in to the front of my boot; I got told, ‘now imagine doing that day in, day out with no relief’. That really put things into perspective,” Mr Plane said.
