Veteran sports journo Peter Sweeney has thrown his weight behind a plan for the WAFL to remove ticket prices from the rest of the season, saying it will rejuvenate interest in the state league.

The well-known sports reporting journeyman and father of Nine’s own Paddy Sweeney told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast there’s still die-hard support behind the WAFL that should be capitalised on.

“AFL will always be the main dish on the smorgasbord, but there’s something special about the WAFL,” Mr Sweeney said.

“They’ve got to get it back there; 20 bucks is too dear at the moment. Just open the gates and people will come.”
