The State Treasurer insists our share of the GST is safe amid renewed calls for the Federal Government to wind back the current distribution deal.

The GST deal struck with the Federal Government in 2018 saw WA receive 70 cents for every dollar put in.

But now economists say the cost blowout from the arrangement could rise from $39 billion over a decade to at least 50 billion.

Independent economist Saul Eastlake told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the estimate has sparked calls for the productivity commission to recommend changes to the agreement when it’s next reviewed.
