Western Australian police will soon have the power to conduct random drug searches at select locations across the state border without reason.

The new laws aim to help police battle the war on drugs and in particular, the use of methamphetamine.

Western Australia police minister Paul Papalia told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the new laws are based on evidence.

“During Covid, there was a massive drop in meth use in Western Australia because of the border search power that was in place at that time,” said the minister.
