Australia’s record migration intake is contributing to the country’s record low rental market, according to new statistics.

The data comes on the back of revelations more than 125-thousand permanent and long-term migrants arrived in Australia in January, despite the Federal Government’s plans to slow the rate of new arrivals.

MacroBusiness co-founder and MB chief economist Leith van Onselen told Gary Adhsead on 6PR Mornings ABS statistics suggest Australia’s population has grown by 680,000 in the last year.

“This is obviously driven by immigration, and the saddest thing is WA is copping it the hardest,” Mr van Onselen said.
