New data has revealed West Australians earning minimum wage are spending nearly two thirds of their income on rent.

Since 2020, the median weekly rent for a house in WA has risen by more than $200 to $580 a week, which represents a jump from 49 per cent to 67 per cent of a low income worker’s weekly wage.

Federal Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the government understood the plight of many, and was determined to work on supply issues.

” I think coordination and a lot of political will and a lot of drive is what’s going to put us on the right direction,” Ms Rishworth said.
