Why Australian students are missing out when it comes to music

Australian students are missing out when it comes to music education.

But it’s not because it’s been cut from the curriculum.

Professor Pasi Sahlberg, professor of education at Southern Cross University, told Millsy at Midday that research shows school kids don’t have enough access to music education.

“Only one in three primary school students in the public schools have a qualified music teacher, which leaves a huge number of kids without anybody to teach them,” told Steve Mills.

“The power of the musical instrument when the kids realise they can make sounds out of that is an amazing thing.”
