After the fatal shark attack in the Swan River on the weekend, there are calls for new strategies to be introduced to reduce the risk of another attack.

One suggestion was to introduce tagging to keep track of the sharks in the river.

Fisheries minister Don Punch told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live more research is needed before implementing strategies.

“The risk of shark attacks in the river is historically low,” said Mr Punch.
