Why young people across the globe are drinking less alcohol
Young people and teenagers are drinking less alcohol than their parents’ generation.
The same scenario is happening in the UK, North America and northern Europe.
Postdoctral research officer at La Trobe University, Gabriel Caluzzi, said alcohol consumption has been declining among young people in the past 15-20 years.
“It means more young people are abstaining or waiting until they are older to start drinking and drinking proportionately less than their parents did,” he said on 6PR Mornings.
But a new study, a collaboration from researchers in the UK, Australia and Sweden, sought to understand why young people were drinking less.
“We found that there were four overarching reasons,” he said.
