World’s first spinal restoration trial approved in Australia
900 thousand people around the world suffer from spinal cord injuries every year. Now, a world-first trial conducted by Australian scientists will take cells from patients’ noses and use them to restore movement in the spine.
Lead clinician Brett McMonagle explains the process and future prospects of the groundbreaking trial to 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl.
‘I’ve been involved in this research for 25 years now, and the whole time I’ve been hoping we’d have a day like this, where we could celebrate announcing this amazing event,” he said.
