The WA Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) has labelled the State Government’s handling of plans for a marine park along the south coast of WA “worse than the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act” amid fears they could devastate the south coast industry.

WAFIC Chief Executive Darryl Hockey told Ian Blackley on 6PR’s Afternoons the plans had excluded all the best commercial fishing areas.

“You’re going to lose the heart and soul of these coastal communities…we won’t have any resident commercial fishers left,” Mr Hockey said.
