‘Would be like going blind again:’ International Guide Dog day highlights importance of their work

It’s International Guide Dog Day, a day dedicated to educating the public and celebrating the work these dogs to support people around the world.
Matt Wood from Vision Australia, Des and his dog Champ joined Millsy & Karl in studio this morning to give insight into seeing eye dogs and Des’ journey.
Mr Wood explained training a seeing eye dog takes around 20 weeks and cost costs around $50 thousand dollars.
Des has the support of one of these dogs and has been partially blind for about 25 years after accident.
“I got to stage where I went totally blind and along came my seeing eye dog which was a gift from heaven, he bought all the normality back to my life,” Des said.
