Wounded bear: Putin forced to react to attempted uprising

Putin’s position as leader of Russia has teetered following a shock 24-hour uprising by the Wagner Group and its infamous leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

The conflict has been shaped by the ongoing pressure caused by the shortage of resources being funneled towards the war in Ukraine, with other Russian oligarchs falling in line on either side.

Flinders University International Relations Senior Lecturer Doctor Jessica Genauer told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings she didn’t think Prigozhin would have resorted to almost beginning a coup.

“It was not totally clear what Yevgeny Prigozhin was trying to achieve, but they got within a couple of hundred kilometres of the capital,” Dr Genauer said.
