UPDATE: The 43-year-old mother who made an emergency landing at Leighton Beach yesterday has called in to 6PR Breakfast to detail how she managed to make such a technically accurate escape from injury.

Michelle Yates said she had memorised the response to the engine failure her plane had suffered which allowed her to get herself and her 15-year-old son to safety.

“I’m really glad people on the beach were filming, because I really wanted to see what the landing was like,” she said.

Leighton beach remains closed after a light airplane crashed into the water about 50 metres offshore yesterday.

Emergency crews are now reportedly working out how to remove the wrecked plane.

Nine News reporter Jack Hahn told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast information was still coming in on the incredible event.

“The plane apparently had about two minutes of cruising time, so the pilot had to decide where they would land,” Mr Hahn said.
