‘You have got to take that on the chin’: Peter Greste on journalists’ role in warzones
When it comes to the dangers faced by journalists, not many know the risk more than peter Greste.
After being found guilty of allegedly falsifying news and “having a negative impact on overseas perceptions of Egypt”, Mr Greste was imprisoned in 2014.
Speaking to Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings, he said current world events such as the war in Gaza show now more than ever, journalists and the work they do must be protected.
“If we don’t have journalists monitoring it, investigating, keeping track of what’s going on, then we’re never really going to have genuinely independent information about what’s happening,” Mr Greste said.
